Iron Mountain Area

Fummee Falls is a great quick stop. It is located right off the highway at a roadside park. It was a quick climb to the top to a viewing area.

One thing on the bucket list is to eat a pasty in the UP. Today, we checked it off our list. Derek loved them with lots of ketchup.

The Millie Mine Bat Viewing Site is located a few miles from the highway. Here 50,000 bats hibernate in the winter months. They enter the cave in September and October and leave the cave in April. Though you will likely not see any bats it is still a great place to visit. There are excellent views of the city of Iron Mountain.

Piers Gorge is a recreational area used primarily for whitewater rafting. It was a great hike. The kids loved playing on the rocks. The path leads to 4 different areas where you can see the rapids.

  1. Piers Gorge is a beautiful place! I've been whitewater rafting there a couple times. Scary, but fun. :) And the trail along the river is just beautiful. So glad you guys are getting to enjoy these parts of the U.P.! :)
