Lititz, PA
Only 6 miles north of the city of Lancaster is a little town called Lititz. Lititz had been Voted America's coolest small town. So, we had to check it out. I am still trying to get used to how long it takes us to get anywhere. It was 11 miles to Lititz and it took us 44 minutes from the RV Park we are staying at.
America's Oldest Pretzel Bakery
Our first stop was at Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery. This bakery was opened in 1861. Although the story of pretzels began long before this time. A common origin story is that monks in Europe had been baking leftover dough tidbits, known as "Pretiola" (Latin for "little reward") for children since 610 AD. The hand twisted shape of the pretzel is often associated with folding arms crossed in prayer.
During the tour the guide explained the history, how the pretzels were made and then everyone got to great their own pretend pretzels.
A neat and engaging place to visit. Highly recommended.
Our next stop was at Lititz Springs Park. The kids LOVED feeding the ducks here. Obviously they were very friendly.
This park is in the center of town, an easy walk to anywhere.
Wilbur Chocolate
Our last stop in Litiitz was to Wilbur Chocolate. Wilbur's is a store and a museum of antique chocolate collectibles. At Wilbur's they have something called a Wilbur Bud, similar to a Hershey's Kiss. We had a taste test to see what we liked better. 3 Votes Hershey Kiss 1 Vote (mom) Wilbur Bud.
