Cane River Creole National Historic Park - Derry, LA

Where should we go next ? Let's go to the middle of Louisiana because
1. We have never been there.
2. There is a National Park located there.

The kids and I headed out to explore the Cane River Creole National Historical Park. Our discussions on the car ride centered around what life looked like on a plantation.  Everyone came to the conclusion really fast they would rather live in the RV than on a plantation.

Cane River Creole includes two plantations, the Oakland and Magnolia. The Oakland was closed for renovation during our visit.  When we arrived we noticed one major thing missing. People. We were the only ones in the park. There was not even a ranger was there on the day we visited.

We did find the cell phone tour at the Magnolia Plantation. There we explored slave quarters, the slave hospital, the store, and the blacksmith's shop. At each stop there was a 90 second recorded message about each stop.  Our visit was quiet and the scenery was beautiful.
