Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District - Fort Worth, TX

There is something magical about the excitement and anticipation of going somewhere new.  In 2016, Dustin's bucket list included events and festivals.  We are currently in Texas. What do the locals do in Texas ?  Think cowboys, BBQ, cowboy boots, hats and Yee- Haw! It's Rodeo Time.

In order to get in the true spirit of the event we headed to goodwill for some cowboy and cowgirl apparel.  We must have done a fine job with our choices as the cashier thought they were fabulous.

When we arrived at the Stockyards, the historic district of Fort Worth was a lively and happening place to be on a beautiful Saturday.

What is the Fort Worth Stockyards ? 

With the arrival of the railroad in the 1870's the stockyards in Fort Worth became a hub of the cattle industry. Today, the historic district is a bustling center for locals and tourist alike.

Adventure Highlights: 

The Historic District is home to shopping, restaurants, a chance to sit on a real long horn, and live music. 

Twice daily you can watch the cattle drive down the main street. Certainly not something you see everyday, unless your in Texas. 

A local suggested we head to Cooper's for some Bar-B-Que. It is a quick walk from the Stockyards. We purchased the Family Pack for 8 and it was a serious amount of meat plus a couple sides. It was served cafeteria style. Your plate is butcher paper. A great place for kids. Simple but delicious. 

Every Friday and Saturday night, at the Cowtown Coliseum, the Stockyards Championship Rodeo is held. We were able to see barrel racing, roping, and bull riding. 

An adventure filled day of boots, hats, cattle, wild west, but best of all friends.

It's not about the destination.  It's about the journey.
