Horseshoe Island, WI

Body of Water: Lake Michigan
Anchor or Dock: Anchor
Traveled: 17.3 Miles

When planning our adventure we hoped to anchor out as much as we could. So we were excited to be able to anchor out shortly after heading out. This was my first time anchoring but Dustin had anchored at Beaver Island when he sailed the boat home in June.

What I was expecting and what happened were totally different. In my mind I thought it would be a much simpler process than what it ended up being. We left Washington Island late, so that was working against us and the whole trip we were surrounded by what looked like to be storm clouds.

When we arrived at the secluded anchorage, we were surprised to find two other boats there. So much for a deserted island. And just as we arrived so did the storm clouds.  With the way the other two boats were anchored Dustin had to tie the boat to shore. It was a lot of work especially in the pouring rain.

In the morning the kids and I took a dingy ride to shore to explore the island.  There is a trail that goes around the island. The kids enjoyed building forts from the rain. They named it bone island as there were lots of skeletons of animals on the island.
