Manitowoc, WI
Body of Water: Lake Michigan
Anchor or Dock: Dock
Traveled: 35 NM
Headed south. This was our first time on the chart where we had to go around shipwrecks. It added an additional 5 miles onto our trip. Better safe and sorry.
Manitowoc is home to the S.S. Badger, a car ferry between Manitowoc, WI and Ludington, MI. It is a National Historic Landmark. The largest of its kind it travels at 18 mph across the lake. The trip takes 4 hours. It was neat to watch the ship come in daily while we were in Manitowoc.
We visit the Rahr-West Art Museum (one of USA's Today's 10 Great Places to see art in small town museums). The art museum is located inside a mansion. There was a local art show taking place and the kids got to vote for their favorite pieces.
The highlight of Manitowoc was a visit to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. The museum is updated museum with lots of hands on exhibits. The older two kids and Dustin also toured a WWII submarine, USS Cobia.
