Fort Griffin State Historic Site- Albany, TX


Description:  

From 1867 to 1881, Fort Griffin was established to give protection from the Native American Tribal raids. During this time, there was a shortage of money and supplies so many of the buildings were temporary.  Only a handful of the originally 90 buildings are still standing today.

Adventure Highlights: 



On the 1920's longhorn cattle were near extinction. Today, at Fort Griffin the Official State of Texas Longhorn Heard calls the fort home.   Each day at 2:00 pm they have a cattle presentation. 

 
From the visitor's center it is a short walk to the fort. The kids kept busy climbing and running to the next building. They searched for artifacts and enjoyed the company of their friends.
