Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Description:  A National Park filled rugged beauty and rich with wildlife.

Location: Medora, North Dakota

Cost:  $20.00 per vehicle

Adventure Highlights:

Cottonwood Campground

Home is where you park it. Our first time staying inside of a National Park. We stayed at Cottonwood Campground. There are 76 sites at the park (1/2 are reservable). The road was narrow and the sites were a little small but we managed to fit into one. In the morning we woke up to buffalo footprints right outside of the RV.

Painted Canyon Overlook

Great Views of the badlands with herds of buffalo welcoming you to the park. There is a Visitors Center located here.

The Wildlife

The kids goal was to see wildlife in the middle of the road. We were successful in this goal. The animals seemed unbothered by the cars and continued about their business. We saw horses, buffalo, prairie dogs, and elk.

The South Unit

Located in the south unit of the park is the 36 mile driving tour to allow you to see the diversity and beauty of the park. There are many turnouts, overlooks, and stops along the way (including buffalo stops).

Buck Hill

The highest point in the park provided an opportunity feel like you are flying.  A 1/2 mile trail with amazing views.
