Redwoods National Park

Description: a Visit to the Giants

Location: Northern California

Cost:  No Cost

Adventure Highlights:

The next stop on our journey south was Crescent City, CA. We stayed at a scenic location directly on the Pacific Ocean. The kids quickly headed to the shore to find treasures. They loved finding rocks, crabs, and shells, which all found their way back to our doorstep.

The drive to Crescent City took us through the Redwoods, so we were excited to see more!  It was a short drive to the Redwoods (This part of the park is managed by Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park). We took Howland Hill Road which is a 10 mile scenic drive through a Redwood grove on a dirt road.  " Look over there! Wow ! It's so big."

Stopping on the scenic drive for an immersive hike on Stout Grove Trail (a .5 mile hike).  It was fun to climb on the huge trees that had fallen.  It was a playground for young and old.  There was no way we could fit our arms around these giants, but we tried!  It was a majestic area.  Since it is rumored to be the location of a famous Star Wars movie scene, the kids imagined they were riding a speedster and avoiding clone soldiers.

Redwoods National Park was one of the first things to go on our bucket list.  We are so very glad to finally enjoy it.   If it is not on your bucket list, you should add it.
